Ford claims that in Drag Strip mode the car will go from 0 to 60 in less than 4 seconds with the eight-cylinder powertrain. The 0 to 60 time for the V-8 engine bests that of the $94,000 Porsche 911 Carrera. Their chief engineer indicated that you won’t lose time when shifting gears with the new Ford-built ten-speed automatic transmission because the torque and horsepower are peaking all the way up the gears. Giddy up!
Looks like Ford is jacking up the power for the 2018 Mustang by giving a kitschy option called the, and we quote, the “Drag Strip” mode. Really. No, really. Well, this will make the 2018 Ford Mustang the fastest ever built. The 5.0-liter V8 model has 460 horsepower (up from 435 in 2017) and 420 pound-feet of torque (up from 400) while the 2.3-liter EcoBoost has the same 310 horsepower as the previous year and 350 pound-feet of torque. To put it another way, don’t get the EcoBoost if you’re buying a pony car.
