The 2108 Audi R8 RWS is a bit of a conundrum, on the one hand the Audi super car is super, but on the other we were worried when they made the call to take out the all wheel drive, Quattro, feature on this stealthy beast.
The book on the Audi R8 is that, while its pretty cool look and is kinda like a super car, it just feels a bit boring. Not sure we can still say this with the new 2018 Audi R8 RWS which comes with a smooth V-10 engine that can push out over five hundred and forty horse power, so boring its not. What the big news about the 2018 Audi R8 RWS is the RWS, which stands for Rear Wheel Series which sees the brand take out the sometime weighty all wheel drive Quattro system that adds about and extra hundred pounds to what’s already a decently heavy ‘super’ car. The 2018 Audi R8 RWS hits the scales at around thirty five hundred pounds, which is about ten percent more than its rival the McLaren 570S. The V-10, 5.2litre Hungarian built engine, which is shared with Lamborghini Huracan makes the Audi R8 RWS a bit of a rocket and without bowing to the trend of its competitive set that eschews the use of turbo charged or super charged boosting capabilities.
The five hundred and forty horses will look to deliver almost four hundred pounds of torque per square foot and will red line out at around eight thousand rpms. On the interior you can expect to see the usual trappings of luxury with leather seats, a fully decked out Band & Olufsen sound system and touch screen infotainment system.
The not so great news is that there will only be nine hundred and ninety nine built and the US will only see 320 of them hit our roads and the sticker shock will be somewhat muted, but will still run you more than $170,000 USD for the pleasure of experiencing a sort of super car.
